Jesus Loves Me Print E-mail
Written by Tracy Selby

The other day I had a conversation with my three-year-old that I thought was worth sharing. "Mommy where does God live?" I was a little busy making breakfast at the time, so I did not respond right away.

He asked me again, "Mommy where does God live?"

I said, "Well son, He lives right here with us."

"Oh," he said with a little bit of a perplexed look and continued, "I know where He sleeps Mommy."

"Oh really; how do you know that?"

"Well, because He talks to me."

"He does?" I said with great excitement. "You are such a lucky boy, aren’t you, to have God talking to you!"

With all confidence he said, "Yes, because He loves me."

The surety that my son had on his face that day when he said, "God talks to me because He loves me" really shook me. A few days prior to our conversation, I had been dealing with those feelings with which parents deal periodically, those feelings of Am I giving my children all that they need emotionally and spiritually; will I be the influence that will draw them closer to Jesus; are they being shown the right attitudes and reactions to life; am I praying enough, and will they forgive all the times that I may not handle myself perfectly and overlook my flaws?

Sometimes this weight of worrying can get heavy and I forget to give it to God and trust His leadership in our family. The Lord used that conversation with my son that day to minister to me and set me free. I cannot fully explain or even begin to understand what happens when the Lord enters the room, but I am sure you know that feeling and it is powerful. You feel it in your whole being; it separates you from this earthly realm and sets you up in heavenly places.

In the flash of a moment, I realized God loves me through all my weaknesses as a mother, a friend, a wife, a neighbor, and all the positions we hold in life in which we wish we could be perfect. We are made perfect in Him and He loves us. My son understands this without a question. He is innocent; he is full of faith, has no fear, and just simply listens to Jesus when He speaks and believes. I have picked up the ways of this world throughout my life and received the doubts, the fears, and disappointments, which makes it more difficult to just listen to the voice of Jesus that simply says, "I love you."

If there is anything that will uphold my children in this life, anything that will be their comfort through the disappointments they will face and the ups-and-downs and doubts in this life, it is the one true reality that "Jesus really does love them." Through their shortcomings and mine, through their fears and doubts, they can always rest assured that Jesus will never leave them nor forsake them. They can also rejoice in the fact that He will always be cheering them on through all their joys and accomplishments; He is always looking out for their good, and He knows their every thought and desire.

As my son spoke to me that day, something else became so clear. If I can receive and walk in that love of God for myself, I will be passing on a generational blessing. By simply walking in the surety of His Love, it will break the backbone of generational curses. It will deliver my children and me from fear, insecurities, rejection and doubt that may plague our lives. Curses are taught and lived-in from generation to generation, but it DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THAT WAY! The rejections and insecurities that I have spent years overcoming, do not have to be passed on. The lack of trust in God and people does not have to go any further. The fear of failure, the weaknesses and all the hurts can stop here, as I truly accept that Love into my life.

That LOVE that overcomes the world, that person that is LOVE, who wraps Himself around us and crushes the fear, the insecurities and disappointments, can literally break every generational curse by HIS LOVE. That LOVE can sweep through my family and yours. He can make a sure foundation that will change the tide of sin that has gone on for generations and change the momentum to build in the right direction for your children and their children. That momentum will be LOVE. LOVE can replace sin, disobedience and rebellion; it’s a landslide of LOVE that cannot be stopped and it will overcome the works of the Enemy.

"LORD, let it be done in our generation that we are literally known for Your love in our lives and the way we spread it to others. Let it continue on in our children so powerfully that they can pass it on to their children, so they can then pass it on and on and on to many more generations––a LOVE that casts out fear and draws all men to You, a LOVE that knows no limits in giving and receiving."

Let’s get caught in a landslide of Love.
