Worship is as diverse and unique as the many people groups that populate this planet. For some, it means singing hymns. Others may worship through playing instruments. Individual churches and whole denominations are sometimes defined by what type of worship they perform as a corporate being. To a believer, worship is a vital part of life whether it is silent meditation or loud "hallelujahs."

I could sing songs and toot instruments until I was blue in the face and still lack the sense of worship I feel when I create a new illustration for the Lord. I feel privileged to be able to worship through my work. Any time I use my gift as an artist to create new paintings, I believe that it honors the Lord, who created me. However, there are certain pieces that have brought me to His feet in an amazing way. Creating illustrations that are inspired by the lessons I learn in Scripture, either through personal devotion time or corporate teaching, are the ones that have touched me the most. Rather than lifting my hands to express my awe at who the Lord is, I start scribbling down my new idea that the Holy Spirit has placed upon my creative mind. Though it may look irreverent to some, I am simply doing what I have been compelled to do––draw.

My artwork is a visual response to what I am learning as a child of God. It is enough for me to practice my gift––regardless of the attention it may or may not draw from other viewers. I am blessed by using my art as a form of worship. I hope and trust that my spiritual experience as an illustrator will only be the beginning of what God will do with my unique form of worship.
